A Few Words of Thanks…

By Stacey Fott

Recently Stephen Nasser visited JD Smith Middle School on May 20th to share his experiences of surviving the Holocaust. While Stephen has received many cards, letters and even posts on our blog about his presentations, we thought this was a great example of teacher and student reactions. Thanks to Stephen for sharing this with us.

Hi, I’m Nazeli and I had a great opportunity to meet Mr. Nasser! On 7/21/2010
Our teacher Mrs. Raskin is a friend of his and he came to our class with two other survivors who shared their stories with us.
I think it was very inspirational day and moment of my life.
Mr. Nasser has amazing sence of humor which made me smile and think “wow he is a true hero”
I hope I will see him again.

I just finished My Brother’s Voice (In one sitting). I have read many stories of the holocaust and each pulls at my heart and fills my head with questions about the limits of mans inhumanity to man. But here, through the voice of this very sweet young boy, Mr. Nasser clearly shows that their are no limits to cruelty. No one is safe, not infants and not children. As shocking as his story is, I find that perhaps the most amazing thing about it is the fact that Pista (the boy) not only survives, but CHOOSES to live out the remainder of his life with love and positivity. Hitler is dead and remembered world-wide as an ugly, vicious, sadistic megalomaniac. Mr Nasser is the hero…….HE WINS! A definite must read!

I think Mr. Nasser is a very wonderful person. I thank him for coming to Mark.L Fine Elementy school to talk the fifth graders. I like the book my brothers voice a lot. It’s one the best book i’ve ever read. I was so happy to meet a surviver from the Holocaust.I was so consatrated when he was speaking. I think it is very sad and cruel that the germans would treat people that way.I almost started to cry because i’ve never thought that would happen. I think that he diserved to live because he is a true HERO!!!!!
